A. – Grand Medicine (“GranMed”, “GM”) began in 1972 in San Diego as the clinical practice of now-retired Traditional Naturopath, Leonard Mehlmauer. Over the years, we have continued to teach and research in the Eyology sciences of Physical Iridology (Iris-1), Personality Iridology (Iris-2), and Sclerology, plus other sciences. Logistics, art, graffix, and co-teaching, are managed by Nenita Sarmiento, occasionally joined by technical and research associates. We are peer-reviewed pioneers in our field, having been acknowledged by such as:

Grand Medicine provides Intro-Intensives of one and two-day lengths, and fuller courses of varying lengths, including double and triple 4-Day Courses, toward effective Eyology practice and certification. We also teach Courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Naturopathy and Radical Healing.

A. – Yes. We are among the very few in our field doing genuine research to advance Eyology science. You will benefit from our long-time experience and understanding.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS

A. – You should be old enuf and sufficiently fluent in English to understand the material. However, Advanced and Master Classes require prior attendance at a BASICS course in the given science (see below). Knowledge of anatomy and physiology (A&P) is helpful in Physical Iridology and Sclerology-related courses but not absolutely necessary. Iris-1 background is not required for Sclerology or our other courses.

A. – Attendees include aspiring Natural Health Practitioners, homemakers seeking a part-time career, Natural Food Storeowners, and those in other non-related professions, plus Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, MT’s, Reflexologists, dentists, pharmacists, medical doctors, and other seeking a differential diagnostic, an upgrade in their knowledge of healing, and a new perspective and education in Alternative Medicine.

A – Highly recommended! Altho a handbook is provided in the three sciences, our manuals do not come with the courses. While not strictly required, manuals are quite informative. They may be purchased in advance or at the course. A very substantial 200+ page fully-illustrated and photographed GranMed Student Course Handbook + practice forms CD are provided with the full (double) Courses. A smaller handbook comes with single Classes.

A. – GranMed research is ongoing, each succeeding course improving over the last. Upgrades are built into our books, materials, and presentations. We keep those on our email lists educated via “Eyology Lessons”—which eventually contain all our discoveries + those of others in the field (see GranMed Discount Club). While the Master Classes always only about the very latest, they are relatively rare. Best to stay with The Discount Club!
CERTIFICATION

A. – For decades, we provided Certificates of Competency, Instructor, and Master Teacher in all three popular Eyology sciences. Times change. With our current focus on research, writing, and (still) teaching, we have turned over Sclerology Competency Certification to IIPA and released the rest. We still give the Certificate of Attendance to those fully participating in all “live” in-person or “live” online courses.

A. – A&P (Anatomy and Physiology) is critical understanding for any practice in Natural Health. Those desiring to effectively practice any of the Eyology sciences must learn college-level Anatomy and Physiology—the form and function of the body. Contact IIPA at 1-888-682-2208 / [email protected] for more information on their specific requirement. Meanwhile, we at GranMed are designing an A&P course just for Eyologists that should adequately provide all the needed conditions and characteristics.

A. – Grand Medicine currently provides classes and courses of several lengths, depending on the needs and desires of students in various world locations. At present, courses in Physical Iridology and Sclerology are still designed as “BASICS” and “ADVANCED”. Meanwhile, we are working on a far more detailed brief (15-20-minute) modular format for all our courses—Eyology, Health, and in other subjects.

TEACHER TRAINING / Apprenticeship / Tutoring

A. – Grand Medicine continues to teach Eyology to prepare students in their understanding of the sciences for office and home practice and, if they are so disposed, to teach them. Your instruction thru GranMed will prepare you eminently well for the exam process offered thru IIPA. Contact IIPA regarding teaching.

A. – The Apprenticeship / Internship Program is for discerning professionals who wish to finely hone their skills by working right with us in our lab, right alongside Dr. Mehlmauer, Nenita, and/or our research associates. A daily fee covers expenses and master teaching. Your meals and a private room may be provided. Besides your instruction, you may be given tasks to perform (often research related) to help us in our work. Tutoring guidelines are provided via our website at www.eyology.com.
EYOLOGY IMAGING

Q. – Will the latest imaging system or camera (like the GranMed EC-2) be demonstrated at the Course?
A. – Yes! We have gotten many requests for the EC-2 Eyology Imaging System, a high-quality moderately priced all-Nikon hand-held eye camera system, plus the two support systems (floor and table models). In “live” in-person classes these are demonstrated (along with the slitlamp when in San Marcos).
MATERIALS, COSTS AND FEES

A. – Prices vary depending on factors such as specific course, its length, sponsors (especially when outside North America), and teaching location. Certain discounts are given, especially to returning and certified students and Teachers who repeat courses. See your GranMed Product Brochure or contact us for more details.

A. –A Grand Medicine Student Course Handbook or other such booklet is always provided. The Handbook contains many pages of important data on the subject being taught (Iridology or Sclerology). It is advisable (altho not crucial) to purchase the course manual prior to class in order to have the advantage of prior study.

A. – Yes, along with many other products when taking “live” in-person classes, especially in San Marcos.

A. – GM provides everything except the following, which you should bring:
(1) A laser pointer (for identifying objects on the big screen)
(2) A hand-held LED lite (torch) and a 4x pocket magnifier (Bausch and Lomb is excellent)
(3) Either a laptop computer or a pen and tablet paper—or both. Audiotaping of courses is permitted.

A. – Yes, usually. We take all student eye images (as desired) and put them up on the big screen for analysis during class—at no charge. (See your GranMed Product Brochure for current prices on personal Lab Studies, help with specific clients and eye markings, and other services).
